PEARLINGTON RECOVERY CENTER CLOSES DOWN
One House at a Time Still at Work
Although it has been four years since Hurricane Katrina, there are still many organizations working throughout the Gulf Coast. One House at a Time still has a few projects open and is continuing to recruit volunteers and donations to complete these projects and help others complete theirs as well.

HURRICANE GUSTAV FLOODS MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST
Pearlington Still Recovering From Katrina
Three years, nearly to the day, following the Gulf Coast’s most destructive storm in decades, Hurricane Gustav swept mighty winds, flooding rains, and up to 10 foot tidal surges into Louisiana and Mississippi communities. On Louisiana’s border, Hancock County, Mississippi, took the heaviest damage in the state once again. The small unincorporated town of Pearlington, MS, still not finished rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina’s total devastation, must now again face the daunting task of cleaning out flood damaged homes and businesses.
Thankfully this time around, there is much less damage to personal property and, because of massive evacuation efforts, no known fatalities as a result of Gustav in Pearlington. However, the damage to this community’s surviving spirit has been noticeable. Some residents have already decided not to return to their longtime homes as a result of this storm. Others are still undecided.
